Endless Summer

Times they are a changing. Summer is winding down and so is the sense of carefree, no-plans, spontaneity. Routines are coming back into swing and our days become more focused. And though you might miss the freedom in warmer days, there are still ways to keep that summer feeling as you drift into fall.

The other evening I put down my phone, grabbed my camera, and went for a walk.
It was just before dinner and I wandered around the neighborhood. This is how I spent much of my time as a kid and teen. My camera would fill up with photos of flowers or fading light or a fuzzy caterpillar I found. More than I loved the end result, I loved the posture of my heart then: being still enough to notice the beauty that so many may have easily walked past.

As each season changes, I find myself reflecting.
Autumn comes with a new push for photography for me. Busier days and scheduling out my time to stay focused and efficient. I'm planning so many shoots and so much excitement is building in my heart.

Still, I hope I can always find the time to set aside my 'to-do's every now and then for the peace that comes with going for a walk. That's the magic in summer: freedom to play. So, I give you permission. Go play. In all your busyness, always find time to be silly, thankful, and to let go.

Klompsgiving

Thankful doesn't even begin to cover it. I am beyond blessed for this family God has given me and the California He's put me in. So grateful for time spent with my favorite people. I can't imagine a better way to spend the day.

--Happy Thanksgiving--

Fading Days

Things are so busy right now. July has not only flown by at lightning speed, but the coming months
don't show any sign of slowing. My day was spent editing, with just a few breaks to eat and stretch my legs.

Then the light faded.

Evening came and I was suddenly aware of time's passing into a quieter, more restful state. I looked up from
my blinding computer screen to see paled walls, feeling an almost tangible stillness around me.

I grabbed my camera.

I found unshut drawers. Unwashed dishes. Neglected calendars and a few dying plants. Signs of days
too busy to care about the details.

 But,

In the evenings and mornings I find myself effortlessly drifting into a reflective state.
I appreciate the sweetness of my life much more. The cool concrete on my bare feet stilled my working brain.

The growing shadows and fading daylight reminded me of two important things:

Firstly, that there is beauty in stillness--in the natural and untampered with world around us. It's the type of beauty that makes you hold your breath, trying hard not to disturb it.

Second, is that I love what I do. A good reminder in this season of busyness, it showed itself through an instinctive click of the shutter. To pursue what I love not because out of necessity, but out of a pure motive-- to enjoy the gifts I'm given.

Thank you, evening, for your gentle reminders.
