An Emotional Spring Afternoon

It's 10:08pm on Saturday night and it's getting emotional over here. I've been going through photos from today. We spent the afternoon giving my son, Amos, his first haircut. *Cue mom-emotions* The kids played in the sprinkler while we all snacked on fresh pineapple and veggies. The sunlight was dreamy and things felt sweet. And I don't ever want to forget these little moments. 

The normal stuff is well, normal. It doesn't always feel special when it's happening. It sometimes is even the reason behind my discontent or bad attitude. It's so easy to look forward to new things. 

But I don't ever want to forget these moments. Nope. I won't. Nothing in my career or personal ambition is worth trading for this time with my people. 

I am so thankful for the gift of photography. My little camera, though it's just a piece of plastic and metal, helps me to keep things in perspective when I feel lost. Images like these are ones that will store in my memory (sometimes easier than actual memories, for whatever reason) and they will help keep me float in the love of the Father. Reminding me that I am truly blessed and loved. 

My goal as a photographer for you is just that-- to give you little visual reminders of how beautiful your life is. I'm not here to make sure you don't have a double-chin in your images or to take photos of only the clean parts of your house. I want it all-- the messy, wonderful life that you have. And I hope you see, too, how treasured and blessed you really are. 

Lifestyle Mini Sessions

Hello, April. You always surprise me. You come and wake me up out of winter with a sudden -- "SPRING IS HERE, but it won't be for long, so move fast! This year will be over before you know it!" 

That may sound kind of dramatic. Maybe it's just this year. 

For those of you just getting to know One, Another or if you've been out of the loop, let me bring you up to speed. 2015 was a wild ride. Matt and I moved to Paso Robles where he started a coffee shop and a few months later we welcomed our little girl, Juniper. I helped Matt a lot with starting up, because another love of mine is baking. I joyfully invested much of my time and energy last year into the café. When Juniper was born our world changed (which everyone says happens, but nothing can prepare you for). Every moment has been wrapped up in her and I'm so thankful I have been able to relax and grow into motherhood.

 For most of last year, I let go of One, Another. After so many huge life changes, it was the right timing to just rest and learn about our new life together. It was an indefinite hiatus, but changes of spring have come. Mama's back.

Rain and Growing

The end of things always bring me to reflect and this year's close is no exception. 

Autumn has brought about lots of thanksgiving (in soul and in meals) and winter brings even more awareness of the changes to come in the new year. 

To put you up to date: 

Matt and I have found out the joyous news that we are expecting our first child. It's AWESOME and we could not be more stoked, humbled, and thankful. God's timing is sweet. Our bear cub is due on June 6th. The cooler weather and baby-growing has brought about a slower pace of life for me, recalibrating my goals while enjoying God's rest. 

In addition to this, my husband, Matt, has been working long, hard hours to open up a coffee shop/roastery in Paso Robles, CA--Spearhead Coffee. We are in the final stretch of details, menu making, hiring, etc. and we cannot wait until it's doors are finally open! Coffee has been a passion of ours for many moons (before moving to California, we managed a non-profit cafe together in Kona, Hawaii with hopes to open shops all over the world). In the next month or so we are looking to move to the Paso area and I will start as the shop's baker (another love of my heart). 

In this season of reflection I recognized just that--seasons. 

My year started with passion for wedding photography, and continued with fantastic experiences shooting my own weddings and second shooting for another photographer. As summer ended, my attention and passion was turned toward our (growing) family while business with photography slowed down a bit. Now, Spearhead Coffee is close to opening it's doors and I find my place again beside Matt in the shop and getting ready for the cub. Seasons of trying new things, experience, refocus and changing priorities, and excitement for new things to come again. 

Cyclical and new, all at once. 

I could try to do one thing for my whole life, but then I wouldn't be me. They say we are creatures of habit. Mine, then, is to always be exploring and changing as I find new loves and wisdom along the way. One, Another continues on-- in community and culture and smiles from stranger to stranger.
